Vitamin D & Magnesium

Vitamin D Deficiency – The Vitamin That's Not a Vitamin:

Vitamin D is actually not a vitamin, it’s a hormone. It’s vital for health and wellness. At Elixir, we’re continually astonished at the chronic low levels of Vitamin D we see among our patients.

When your D levels are chronically low, daily supplementation simply won’t address the problem. It’s like standing on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and attempting to fill an empty harbour with an eyedropper … put simply, it would take years and years (if ever) to refill the harbour!

Very low levels of Vitamin D (<30 nmol/L) require high dose loading – generally in liquid or capsule form. It is not uncommon for us to “load” patients with up to 400000IU in 4ml of liquid … that’s the equivalent of taking 400 Vitamin D capsules! The great news is, because it’s a hormone you only need to “load” once a year because the body stores Vitamin D … so it’s a cheap, easy and important fix for those who are deficient.

The Consequences of Vitamin D Deficiency:

1. Pain 2. Poor bone density 3. Respiratory infections 4. Diabetes 5. Cardiovascular disease 6. Obesity 7. Cancer 8. Compromised neurological function 9. Stroke and Multiple Sclerosis 10. Lung disorders 11. Gastrointestinal Disorders 12. Kidney Disease

How Much Is Enough?

There's little consensus about what blood levels of vitamin D are adequate. The Endocrine Society recommends levels of at least 75 nmol/L. To achieve this level, some require single-bolus doses of up to 500000 IU.

D-Deficient?

If you have low levels of Vitamin D and require a high dose “load”, Elixir Compounding Pharmacy compound high dose Vitamin D in both liquid and capsule form.

The Magic of Magnesium:

The ‘Magnesium Maze’! It’s a big family ... there’s Oxide, Citrate, Chloride, Sulphate, Glycinate, Lysinate, Orotate, Taurate, Aspartate, Malate and even L-Threonate .... talk about confuse-inate!!!!! Yet it’s so important our bodies get the right ‘M’ for our individual needs. Magnesium is a mighty important nutrient ... and the right magnesium is a magical nutrient! Interestingly, most forms of Magnesium are absorbed through the Ion channel in the body. Magnesium “as” Glycinate gets absorbed through the Amino Acid channel in the body, and this is super critical. Magnesium as Glycinate is around five times more absorbent than other Magnesium forms. Furthermore, being absorbed through the Amino Acid channel means that it is far more effective at moderating muscle function and assisting with sleeping disorders. It’s the ONLY form of Magnesium we’d recommend for those suffering chronic pain, including those with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis.

Elixir compounds Magnesium as Glycinate in 200mg capsules and the recommended daily dose is one capsule taken an hour before bed.
